More than $80K in drugs seized during Kirkland Lake bust

KIRKLAND LAKE - On Nov. 19, 2020, The North East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) executed a search warrant at a residence on Taylor Avenue in the Town of Kirkland Lake.

Police seized drugs suspected to be opioids (including fentanyl) and methamphetamines. Police also seized $3,680 in Canadian currency. Total estimated street value of the seizure is over $80,000.

As a result, two people have been arrested and charged.

Chad Mulvill age 41 of Kirkland Lake, has been charged with the following:
    •    Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),
    •    Possession of a Schedule I Substance - opioid, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA,
    •    Possession of a Schedule I Substance - methamphetamine, contrary section 4(1) of the CDSA, and
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.

The accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice by video on Nov. 23, 2020.

Douglas McLeod, age 42 of Kirkland Lake, has been charged with the following:
    •    Possession of a Schedule I Substance - opioid, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA, and
    •    Possession of a Schedule I Substance - methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA (two counts).

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on Jan. 7, 2021.
