Mississauga man facing drug, failure to comply charges

Police allegedly found controlled substances when responding to a call at a Timmins apartment

The Timmins Police Service has charged a Mississauga area man with a number of Criminal Code and Drug Possession offences stemming from an incident that occurred early yesterday morning (Feb. 1) at a Balsam Street North apartment.

While responding to a call for service at the Balsam Street North apartment, responding Timmins Police officers noted the presence of controlled substances and drug paraphernalia in plain view at the scene.

The Timmins Police maintained investigative control of the scene while seeking to obtain a search warrant.

While maintaining the scene, an occupant who had been hiding in the residence was located and arrested.

As a result of the incident, William Powell, 27, of Mississauga, has been charged with:

  • two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
  • seven counts of fail to comply with release order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Powell remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for Friday, Feb. 4 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
