The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with a number of Criminal Code offences stemming from an incident that occurred at the intersection of Algonquin Blvd and Mountjoy Street yesterday evening, Nov. 15
The Timmins Police Service responded to an incident where a man was belligerent towards persons using an ATM in the downtown area of Timmins.
A detailed description of the disruptive panhandler was provided to the Timmins Police Service.
A short while later, a man matching the description provided was located by a Timmins Police officer who observed the man acting irrationally in the middle of the intersection of Algonquin Blvd and Mountjoy Street at approximately 9:45 p.m. yesterday evening.
Upon being approached by the Timmins Police officer, the suspect immediately adopted a fighting stance and became aggressive towards the officer.
In the interest of the person’s safety, the suspect was taken into custody after a brief resistive arrest procedure.
Upon being arrested, a prohibited weapon was located on the suspect’s person.
The suspect was placed under arrest and provided a false name to the police.
As a result of the incident, Eric Cardinal, 33, of Timmins, has been charged with:
- Cause disturbance contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
- Assault peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
- Resist peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
- Unauthorized possession of a weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
- Identity fraud contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
- Fail to comply with probation order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
- Fail to comply with release order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
The accused remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to address the charges laid against him.
