Man driving stolen vehicle charged

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with “possession of stolen goods” and driving related offences stemming from an incident that occurred during the evening hours of Friday, Jan. 15 where a stolen vehicle was found to be in his possession.

While on patrol of an assigned patrol zone, a Timmins Police Service officer had occasion to stop a Jeep Compass for a traffic violation on Maple Street South.

Upon further scrutiny by the Timmins Police officer, it was determined that the vehicle was stolen and the driver was unlicenced, as well as being under suspension in Ontario, and being prohibited from driving anywhere in Canada.

The man was arrested and taken into police custody.

As a result of the incident, Vincent Belair, 34, of Timmins, Ontario, has been charged with: 

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – over $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Drive While Prohibited contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. 
  • Drive While Suspended contrary to the Highway Traffic Act 
  • Drive - No Licence contrary to the Highway Traffic Act 
  • Four counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused has been released from police custody on the strength of an Undertaking compelling him to attend at Provincial Court in Timmins on Feb. 23 to answer to the charges laid against him.
