Man charged with impaired after single-vehicle rollover on Highway 11

Police say the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck the ditch

TOWNSHIP OF ARMSTRONG-EVANTUREL - On Aug. 9, 2021, shortly after 6:30 a.m. members from the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Timiskaming District Emergency Medical Services (EMS), responded to a single motor vehicle rollover on Highway 11 near Armstrong-Evanturel Boundary Road. 

Preliminary investigation revealed that a motor vehicle was travelling on Highway 11 when it lost control and struck the ditch. 

The lone occupant of the vehicle did not sustain any injuries, but was transported to hospital as a precautionary measure. 

Furthermore, the accused was transported to Englehart Detachment for testing.

The vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded. 

Philip Fox, a 38-year-old resident of Lebel Township has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC 

The accused was released by way of an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Sept. 14, 2021 in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

The OPP reminds motorists that any amount of alcohol or drug can impair one's ability to drive. If you observe a suspected impaired driver, please call 911 or contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 and report it.
