Man charged with forcible confinement, uttering threats after March assault incident

Police say the accused engaged in ''coercive conduct' with the victim after the original assault charge was laid back in March

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with Criminal Code offences stemming from an incident that occurred in March of this year in Schumacher.

The Timmins Police investigated a March incident where a 45-year-old Schumacher man had assaulted an 18-year-old male person.

The incident resulted in an arrest and charges being laid against Richard Vaillancourt, 45, of Schumacher.

Based on investigation, it was determined that Vaillancourt engaged in coercive conduct with the victim later in March after the original assault charge had been laid.

Based on the outcome of the incident, Richard Vaillancourt, 45, of Timmins, was arrested on Sept. 15 in relation to the March incident and has been charged with:

  • Unlawfully enter a dwelling house contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Utter threats contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Forcible confinement contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Attempt to obstruct justice contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused was released from police custody at a bail hearing with strict conditions including having to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins on Sept. 27 to answer to the charges laid against him.
