Man arrested after uttering threats outside restaurant: police

Police say an aggressive panhandler uttered a 'series of threats' at a staff member

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with Criminal Code offences stemming from an incident that occurred the evening of Aug. 9 in a Riverside Drive restaurant parking lot.

Timmins Police Service officers responded to a disturbance where a restaurant staff member approached an aggressive panhandler who had been accosting patrons of the restaurant.

The staff member approached the man and made an appeal for him to vacate the area as his activity was not well received.

The man proceeded to utter a series of threats to the restaurant staff member.

Upon arrival, the subject was located and taken into custody by the Timmins Police Service. A quantity of a controlled substance was located in the course of their investigation.

Based on the outcome of the incident, Faron Blais, 24, of no fixed address, has been charged with:

  • Utter threats contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • 2 counts of fail to comply with probation order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a controlled substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

The accused person remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
