Man accused of panhandling found in violation of court-ordered conditions

The Timmins Police Service arrested a Timmins resident stemming from an incident where the suspect was found to be in breach of a set of strict court imposed conditions listed in an undertaking.

The Timmins Police Service responded to a public complaint regarding a man who was drinking in public and panhandling in front of a Timmins coffee shop during the afternoon hours of Sunday, Nov. 29.

The responding Timmins Police officers completed an investigation into the matter and determined that such activity was in violation of strict conditions imposed upon him by the Provincial Court in Timmins.

The Timmins Police Service has determined that breaches of court imposed conditions regarding a attending the specific restaurant and the consumption of alcohol had in fact taken place.

As a result, Roger Chokomolin, 56 of Timmins was taken into police custody and is charged with:

  • Fail to comply with undertaking contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Fail to comply with probation order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused’s next court appearance is slated for Dec. 7 at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the criminal charges laid against him.
