Local man arrested for early-morning gas station robbery

Suspect displayed a knife, demanded cash from clerk, police say

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local person with robbery related offences stemming from an incident that occurred early this morning at an Algonquin Boulevard gas station in Timmins.

At approximately 3:10 a.m., [it is alleged that] a male suspect attended an Algonquin Boulevard gas station and displayed a knife and demanded cash from the clerk. The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of cash fled the scene on foot.

Responding Timmins Police officers tracked the suspect to a Commercial Avenue residence whereupon, for public safety and scene containment reasons, the Timmins Police deployed their Emergency Response Team (ERT) and set up a perimeter around the residence.

The Timmins Police Service - Criminal Investigations Division assumed investigative control of the incident.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident later that same morning. As a result, Paul Michael Wice, 30, of Timmins has been charged with:

  • Armed robbery contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Use disguise with Intent contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

A bail hearing was conducted and the accused has been released from police custody, bound by strict conditions including having to attend Provincial Court in Timmins at a later date to answer to the charges laid against him. The scene of the arrest was released late this afternoon after Timmins Police Service - Forensics Identification Unit had completed a thorough examination of the scene.
