Kirkland Lake traffic stop leads to impaired driving charge

Officers seized suspected cannabis during investigation

KIRKLAND LAKE - On Nov. 18, 2020 at approximately 11:23 p.m., members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver in the Town of Kirkland Lake.

Police located the vehicle and further investigation revealed that the driver was impaired. Police also seized drugs suspected to be cannabis.

As a result, Eric Siebert, age 35 of Hudson Township, has been charged with the following:
    •    Operation while impaired, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code, and
    •    Have care or control of vehicle with cannabis readily available, contrary to section 12(1) of the Cannabis Control Act 2017

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Jan. 7, 2020, in Kirkland Lake.
