Kirkland Lake resident charged for uttering threats

On Jan. 9, 2022, frontline members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a person being threatened on Tower Street in the Town of Kirkland Lake.

As a result of the investigation, Derek Klassen, 36 years- of-age, of Kirkland Lake, was arrested and charged with:

  • Uttering threats - Cause death or bodily harm, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Uttering threats - Damage property, contrary to section 264.1(1)(b) of the CC

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on March 3, 2022, in Kirkland Lake.
