Kirkland Lake resident accused of driving with cannabis in the car

Passenger also found in possession of illegal drugs, say police

LAURENTIAN HILLS - On Jan. 27, 2021, at approximately 8 p.m., the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a vehicle with two occupants parked in snow plow turnaround area on Highway 17 in Laurentian Hills.

Offences were noted under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) and Cannabis Control Act (CCA) and the passenger was found to be in possession of a quantity of illegal drugs.

As a result of this incident the 43-year-old driver from Kirkland Lake, Ont., was issued Provincial Offence Notices for the following violations under the HTA and CCA:

  • Class G1 licence holder unaccompanied by a qualified driver
  • Have care or control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available

 The passenger, 23-year-old Kristen Beauchamp of Kirkland Lake, Ont., was arrested and charged with the following Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) offence:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance - cocaine

 The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on March 30, 2021.
