Kirkland Lake OPP make arrest in ongoing theft investigation

On Nov. 11, 2021, members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) executed a search warrant at a residence on Carter Avenue in relation to the on-going theft investigations in the town of Kirkland Lake.

Police seized several stolen items and identified additional victims.

As a result of the investigation, Cole Garlarneau, 28 years-of-age, of Kirkland Lake, has been charged with the following additional offences:

  • Break and Enter, contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC (Ten Counts)
  • Trafficking in Property Obtained By Crime, contrary to section 355.2 of the CC (Two Counts)
  • Possession of a Firearm Obtained by Crime, contrary to section 96(1) of the CC
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, contrary to section 91(1) of the CC
  • Careless Storage of Firearms, contrary to section 86(1) of the CC
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order - Do Not Possess Any Weapon as Defined by The Criminal Code, contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the CC (Four Counts)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice by video on Nov. 17, 2021.
