Kirkland Lake OPP charge 55-year-old with assault, possession of unmarked cigarettes

Police say the accused was under the influence of alcohol during the incident

KIRKLAND LAKE - On Sept. 5, 2021, members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an assault that occurred on Government Road West in the Town of Kirkland Lake.

The investigation revealed that the accused was under the influence of alcohol and assaulted the victim. The victim did not suffer any injuries from the assault. Further investigation revealed that the accused was in possession of unmarked cigarettes.

As a result, Ronald Jordan, 55 years of age, from Dowling, Ontario, was arrested and charged with;

  • Assault, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Being intoxicated in public place, contrary to section 31(4) of the Liquor Licence Act (LLA)
  • Having liquor in open container in other than licensed premises, residence or private place, contrary to section 31(2) of the LLA
  • Possess unmarked cigarettes, contrary to section 29(2) of the Tobacco Tax Act

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on Oct. 21, 2021.
