Kirkland Lake man charged after dispute: OPP

A 63-year-old has been charged with threatening an officer and careless storage of a firearm

KIRKLAND LAKE - On Dec. 30, 2020, members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a dispute at a residence on Day Avenue in the Town of Kirkland Lake.

The investigation revealed that an argument had taken place and that firearms were improperly stored within in the residence. During the course of the investigation the accused uttered a threat toward an officer.

As a result, William Simpson, age 63, of Kirkland Lake, was charged with the following;

  • Uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC), and
  • Careless storage of firearm, contrary to section 86(1) of the CC.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake, on Feb. 25, 2021.
