Kirkland Lake driver faces impaired charges after traffic stop on Highway 11

The 67-year-old had their licence suspended and vehicle impounded as a result

STRONG TWP – On Tuesday July 6, 2021 at approximately 2:45 a.m., members of the Almaguin Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver on Highway 11, Strong Township. Police located the motor vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. 

While speaking with the driver police determined alcohol had been consumed. 

As a result, Donald Kelly, 67 years-of-age from Kirkland Lake, Ont. was charged with: 

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC) and 
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the (CC).  

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday Aug. 26, 2021 in Sundridge Ont.
