Kirkland Lake driver faces drug charge following traffic stop

CHAMBERLAIN TOWNSHIP - On Jan. 29, 2021 shortly after 10 p.m., members from the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting pro-active patrols on Highway 11 in the Township of Chamberlain.

Officers stopped a motor vehicle travelling southbound for a traffic infraction. Further investigation revealed that the driver did not have a valid licence and the accused was arrested.

A search incident to arrest, yielded a quantity of suspected controlled substances.

As a result, Brodie Dennison, a 31-year-old resident of the Town of Kirkland Lake, has been charged with:
    •    Speeding 1 - 49 km/h over the posted limit, contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA),
    •    Driving while under suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the HTA, and
    •    Possession of a schedule I substance - methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The vehicle was towed from the scene.

The accused was released by way of an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on March 2, 2021 in the City of Temiskaming Shores.
