Kidnapping, conspiracy to commit murder among charges in Timmins containment

Kidnapping and conspiracy to commit murder is among the charges laid in an incident on Carrigan Road.

Around 2 p.m. on Saturday (March 23), Timmins Police and OPP were called to the Carrigan Road area after receiving a 911 call. 

The emergency response teams (ERT) for the OPP and Timmins Police contained the house and contacted the occupants. Several people left the residence and were arrested by police, said Timmins Police in a news release. 

The OPP tactical response unit (TRU) was called in to help get the remaining occupants out of the house. 

The last two people in the house exited the residence just before 5 a.m. on March 24. They were arrested and the house was cleared by police. 

The scene remains under the control of the Timmins Police and a police presence is expected in the area for at least the rest of today (March 25). Police say there is no threat to public safety.

Eight people were arrested. The charges include kidnapping, conspiracy to commit murder, assault, assault with a weapon and firearms charges. 

Six of the eight people arrested were held in police custody on March 24 and have a court appearance today. 

The names of the accused and individual charges have not been released by police yet. The investigation is ongoing and more charges may be laid, said police.
