Kapuskasing crash leads to impaired charges

KAPUSKASING – On Aug. 13, 2021 at approximately 12:40 a.m. members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) James Bay Detachments responded to a Motor Vehicle Collision (MVC) involving a pick-up truck and a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) on Government Road West in a reduced one lane construction zone in the Town of Kapuskasing. The passenger of the pick-up truck was taken to hospital by Cochrane District Emergency Medical Services.  

As a result of the investigation, Timothy Watkins, 56 years old of Kapuskasing, was arrested and charged with: 

  • Dangerous operation, causing bodily harm, contrary to section 320.13(2) of the Criminal Code (CC) 
  • Operation while Impaired causing bodily harm, contrary to section 320.14(2) 
  • Driver - fail to properly wear seat belt, contrary to section 106(2) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) 
  • Driving while under suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the HTA 
  • Red light - fail to stop, contrary to section 144(18) of the HTA  

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Oct. 18, 2021 in Kapuskasing.
