Impaired charge laid after snow vehicle crashes into ice shack on Lake Temiskaming

Police say the driver was ejected from the vehicle and transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries

LAKE TEMISKAMING - On March 4, 2021, shortly after 8:30 p.m. members from the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Timiskaming Emergency Medical Service (EMS) responded to a single vehicle collision on Lake Temiskaming, in the City of Temiskaming Shores. 

Preliminary investigation revealed that a motorized snow vehicle (MSV) collided with an ice shack and the lone operator was ejected. The operator suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by ambulance.

Further investigation revealed that the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages.

The accused conducted the breath tests and registered more than double the legal limit.

Ashley Jensen, a 35-year-old resident from Temiskaming Shores has been arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC), and
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC.

The accused was released by way of an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on March 23, 2021 in the City of Temiskaming Shores.
