The Timmins Police Service has charged a local woman with Impaired Driving related Criminal Code offences stemming from an incident that occurred during the late afternoon hours of Saturday, Jan. 16 in the downtown core area of Timmins.

Concerned citizens observed an SUV parked off of Algonquin Blvd West where the driver was apparently slumped over the steering wheel with the motor running.

The subject vehicle, a Kia Sportage, was located by responding Timmins Police officers and EMS personnel.

The driver was roused by the responding police officer and subjected to a Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST).

Based on the outcome of that test and independent observations of the driver’s physical demeanour, the driver was arrested and taken into police custody.

A quantity of a controlled substance was located on the subject’s person in the course of the arrest.

It was later determined that the driver is prohibited from driving in Canada.

As a result of the incident, Jennifer Larocque, 37, of Timmins, has been charged with:

  • Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
  • Operate Motor Vehicle While Prohibited contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Two counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused person was released from police custody on the strength of an Undertaking compelling the accused to attend at Provincial Court in Timmins on Feb. 2 to address the charges laid against her.
