Hockey stick fashioned into weapon leads to arrest: Police

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with a Criminal Code weapons related offence stemming from an incident that occurred earlier today near the intersection of Rea Street North and Vimy Avenue in Timmins.

Timmins Police officers responded to a complaint of a man wielding a hockey stick that had been fashioned into a weapon.

[It is alleged that] the man was yelling profanities at passing traffic and striking motor vehicles with the weapon.

Traffic in all directions was backed up briefly until the Timmins Police quelled the situation by completing an arrest of the suspect.

Based on the outcome of the incident, Daniel Joliecoeur, 55 of Timmins, has been charged with:

  • possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused person remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charge laid against him.
