Hearst resident faces trespassing, theft charges

Police say they responded to numerous calls between July 7 and July 10 involving the accused

HEARST - Between the dates of July 7, 2022 and July 10, 2022, members of the Hearst Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to numerous calls for service involving the same person. OPP responded to a theft, trespass by night, trespass to property, mischief, and an assault incident in the Town of Hearst.

As a result of these investigations, John Hubbard, 56 of Hearst, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Trespassing at night, contrary to section 177 of the Criminal Code (CC) (two counts)
  • Theft under $5,000, contrary to section 334(b) of the CC
  • Mischief under $5,000, contrary to section 430(4) of the CC
  • Disobeying order of court, contrary to section 127 of the CC (two counts)
  • Fail to leave premises when directed, contrary to section 2(1(b) of the trespass to property act
  • Forcible confinement, contrary to section 279(2) of the CC
  • Mischief - obstructs, interrupts or interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property, contrary to section 430(1)(c) of the CC (four counts)
  • Fail to comply with probation order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC (three counts)
  • Breach of recognizance, contrary to section 811 of the CC (three counts)
  • Assault a peace officer, contrary to section 270(1)(a) of the CC

The accused appeared before the Ontario Bail Court of Justice on July 11, 2022. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
