Kirkland Lake OPP charge resident for not self-isolating under Quarantine Act

GAUTHIER TOWNSHIP - On Nov. 18, 2020, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Kirkland Lake Detachment received a call for assistance from the Public Health Agency of Canada. Officers were requested to complete a compliance check under the Quarantine Act in Gauthier Township.

Officers began an investigation and found that the person subject to the Quarantine Act had entered Canada arriving from another country. The investigation revealed that the individual was in non-compliance with the mandatory 14-day self-isolation requirement upon entering Canada.

A 72-year-old from Gauthier Twp. was issued a Provincial Offence Notice and charged with failure to comply with reasonable measure ordered by a screening officer or quarantine officer under section 15(3) of the Quarantine Act.
