Five people charged after 'intensive drug investigation'

The Timmins Police Service has charged five persons with a number of Criminal Code and Drug Possession offences stemming from an intensive drug investigation undertaken by the Timmins Police Service – Drug Enforcement Unit.

The investigation culminated with the execution of a Search Warrant yesterday (Aug. 18) at a Birch Street North apartment building and the arrests of five persons.

The Timmins Police Service - Drug Enforcement Unit executed the Search Warrant in a coordinated fashion in collaboration with the Timmins Police - Emergency Response Team (ERT) and seized the following exhibits as evidence:

  • 27.2 grams of Purple/ Fentanyl  
  • 6.1 grams of Crack Cocaine  
  • $2,290.00 in Cash

The total street value of the illicit substances is pegged at $17,370.

As a result of the investigation, 

  • Abbas Abdinour, 19, of Toronto 
  • Stephane Lacroix, 42, of Timmins 
  • Heather Slaght, 43, of Timmins  
  • William Powell, 25, of Mississauga

have been charged jointly with:  

  • Two count each of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act  
  • One count each of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Slaght has been further charged with an additional count of:  

  • Fail to Comply with Release Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Powell has been further charged with 3 additional counts of: 

  • Fail to Comply with Release Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Additionally, Sheldon Johnston, 32 of Boom Lake (Timmins) has been charged with a single count of: 

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

All charged persons remain in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the respective charges laid against them.

In addition, Powell was arrested and charged yesterday with drug offences stemming from the execution of a Search Warrant by the Timmins Police Service – Drug enforcement Unit at a west end hotel on Thursday, July 30.
