KAPUSKASING – On Aug. 7, 2021, members of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a report of a sexual assault and an assault incident.
As a result of the investigation, a 58-year-old person, from Fauquier-Strickland, was arrested and charged with:
- Sexual interference, contrary to section 151 of the Criminal Code (CC)
- Invitation to sexual touching under 16 years of age, contrary to section 152 of the CC
- Sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age, contrary to section 271 of the CC
- Assault, contrary to section 266 of the CC
- Distribute cannabis to individual under 18 years of age, contrary to section 9(1)(a)(ii) of the Cannabis Act
The OPP will not comment further on specifics of this matter as that information is before the courts. A publication ban is in place to prevent the revealing information pertaining to the victim or their identity.
