Erratic behaviour results in drug charges

Timmins Police Service has charged a local person with a number of Criminal Code and Drug Possession offences stemming from an incident which occurred during the morning hours of Monday, Nov. 30 at a Waterloo Road strip mall in Timmins.

The Timmins Police Service received a complaint of a man acting erratically and yelling at passers-by.

Responding Timmins Police officers located the man and took him into custody for his own protection.

The man was transported to the Timmins and District Hospital for a medical assessment.

A quantity of a controlled substance was found on his person.

As a result of the incident, Michael LaPorte, 29 of Timmins, has been charged with:

  • Possession of a controlled substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
  • Fail to comply with probation order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

LaPorte has been released from police custody on the strength of an undertaking requiring that he attend at Provincial Court in Timmins on Jan. 26, 2021, to answer to the charges laid against him.
