Elderly woman dies after being hit by taxi (updated)

Police say she was lawfully crossing the road when the crash happened

Update: 

Timmins Police have identified the victim as 87-year-old Lornette Braet of Timmins.

They've also clarified that the driver of the taxi remained at the scene and his identity will not be released publicly at this time. The Criminal Investigations Division is leading the investigation.

An elderly woman hit by a vehicle while crossing the road yesterday has died. 

Timmins Police says she died yesterday (Oct. 4) afternoon from injuries she received in the crash. 

The collision happened at 9:15 a.m. at the intersection of McLean Drive and Jubilee.

A taxi driver turning right off of Jubilee onto McLean hit the woman, who police say was lawfully crossing the McLean crosswalk. The victim was brought by ambulance to Timmins and District Hospital, where she later died.
