HEARST - On Aug. 26, 2021, members of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a domestic disturbance incident on Highway 583 South near Jogues.

As a result of the investigation, the James Bay OPP Crime Unit, the Emergency Response Team (ERT), and the Hearst OPP Detachment executed a search warrant at the residence on Highway 583 South.

A 61-years-old person, from Jogues, was arrested and charged with:
    •    assault - spousal (three counts), contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC)
    •    uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm - spousal (three counts), contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC
    •    uttering threats - damage to property, contrary to section 264.1(1)(b) of the CC
    •    careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition (four counts), contrary to section 86(1) of the CC
    •    possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - other drugs, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
    •    unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm (three counts), contrary to section 91(1) of the CC
    •    possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, contrary to section 88 of the CC
    •    knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm (two counts), contrary to section 92(1) of the CC
    •    possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon at unauthorized place (two counts), contrary to section 93(c) of the CC
    •    possession property obtained by crime under $5,000 - in Canada, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC
    •    mischief - destroys or damages property, contrary to section 430(1)(a) of the CC

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court on Sept. 1, 2021 in Cochrane.

The OPP will not be releasing the name of the accused in order to protect the identity of the victim.
