Three people are facing charges after police seized drugs in Kashechewan and Timmins.

Yesterday (Jan. 24), officers from the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service (NAPS) and Timmins Police Service executed two search warrants, one in each community, as part of a joint operation.

The first search by NAPS was in Kashechewan, a remote First Nation on the James Bay coast, where methamphetamine tablets were seized. A woman from Kashechewan was arrested and is charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

The name of the accused and her age were not released by police.

She was released from police custody.

In the evening, Timmins Police executed a search warrant locally and seized a large quantity of methamphetamine pills. Investigators believe the drugs were heading to Kashechewan.

Two people were arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. Timmins Police didn't provide the names, ages or gender of the accused.

Both of the accused were released from police custody.

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
