Suspected cocaine, currency valued at $25K seized at Kirkland Lake traffic stop

KIRKLAND LAKE, ON – On April 30, 2020, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) with the assistance of the North East Region Canine Unit (K9), executed search warrants at a residence on Government Rd. W. and on McCamus Ave. in the Town of Kirkland Lake.

Police seized drugs suspected to be cocaine, crack cocaine and Canadian currency with an estimated street value of $25,000. A motor vehicle was also seized as part of the investigation.

As a result, Daniel Joly, age 53, and Adaire Whittington, age 52, both from Kirkland Lake, were charged with the following: 

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), 
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA, and
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.  

Both accused were released on an undertaking and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on July 2, 2020.
