Driver charged with impaired in Kirkland Lake

KIRKLAND LAKE - On Jan. 24, 2021, at approximately 7:20 p.m., members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver.

Police located the vehicle on Government Road East in the Town of Kirkland Lake and were able to determine that the driver was driving while impaired by drugs.

As a result, Robert Beatteay, 51 years of age of London, Ont., has been charged with the following: 

  • Operation While Impaired, contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand, contrary to section 320.15(1) of the CC,
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order, contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the CC, and
  • Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The driver was issued a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (ADLS) and the motor vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on March 4, 2021, in Kirkland Lake.
