Driver charged with impaired at OPP RIDE check

CHARLTON AND DACK TOWNSHIP - On Dec. 3, 2020 shortly after 2:30 p.m., members from the Temiskaming and Englehart Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) on Highway 560 near Christopher Street in the Township of Charlton and Dack.   

Further investigation revealed that a motor vehicle was travelling on Highway 560 towards the RIDE check point.

After speaking with the driver, the officer determined that the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages. The driver was arrested and transported to the Englehart Detachment to conduct further tests.  

Nigel Buck, a 59-year-old resident of Charlton-Dack, has been charged with:  

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC), and 
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CDSA.

The vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded.   

The accused was released by way of an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Jan. 5, 2021 in the City of Temiskaming Shores.  

The OPP reminds motorists that any amount of alcohol or drug can impair one's ability to drive. If you observe a suspected impaired driver, please call 911 or contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 and report it.
