Driver charged with impaired after truck ditched near Kamiskotia Lake

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with impaired driving related Criminal Code offences stemming from an incident that occurred during the late afternoon hours of Saturday, Nov. 21 in the Kamiskotia Lake area.

A pedestrian reported an incident where he was nearly struck by a pickup truck before the truck entered a ditch near the intersection of Kamiskotia Road and Leclair Avenue.

A responding Timmins Police Service officer located the vehicle and the driver, and made independent observations about the nature of the collision and regarding the driver’s faculties.

Based on these observations, and the result of approved screening device breath testing procedures, the driver of the pickup truck was arrested and taken into custody for the purposes of completing Intoxilyzer breath testing procedures at the Timmins Police station.

As a result of this incident, Lawrence Jones, 61 of Timmins, has been charged with:
    •    Impaired operation of a motor vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Operate motor vehicle - concentration in excess of 80 mgs of alcohol per 100 mls of blood contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused was released from police custody on the strength of an Undertaking compelling him to attend at Provincial Court in Timmins on Dec. 8 to address the charges laid against him.
