Driver charged for impaired after hitting vehicle, fleeing scene in Englehart

The 27-year-old faces multiple charges as a result

TOWN OF ENGLEHART – On June 30, 2021 shortly after 5:30 p.m., members from the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for a traffic complaint on 3rd Street in the Town of Englehart.    

While patrolling the area, police received a second call for a similar vehicle that had struck a vehicle and fled the scene. Officers located the vehicle unattended on Third Street.    

At approximately 9:30 p.m. officers located the driver near 3rd Street. It was determined that he had consumed alcoholic beverages. Graham Snape, a 27-year-old resident of Evanturel Township has been arrested and charged with: 

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC) 
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC 
  • Novice driver - B.A.C. above zero, contrary to section 44.1(3) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) 
  • Fail to report accident, contrary to section 199(1) of the HTA  

The accused was released by way of an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on July 20, 2021 in the City of Temiskaming Shores. 

The OPP reminds motorists that any amount of alcohol or drug can impair one's ability to drive. If you observe a suspected impaired driver, please call 911 or contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 and report it.
