On Jan. 16, 2021 at 1:38 a.m. members of the James Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a domestic assault incident in Val Rita.
As a result of the investigation, a 51-year-old person of Val Rita was arrested and has been charged with:
- Assault cause bodily harm - choke, suffocate or strangle, contrary to section 267(c) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC) (two counts),
- Assault causing bodily harm, contrary to section 267(b) of the CC, and
- Assault, contrary to section 266 of the CC.
The accused was released on an Undertaking and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kapuskasing in February 2021.
