Domestic dispute call leads to charges for one in Moonbeam

MOONBEAM - On Jan. 13, 2021 at 10:21 a.m. members of the James Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a domestic dispute on Highway 11 in Moonbeam.

Investigation revealed that the dispute had escalated to a physical altercation.

As a result, a 49-year-old person of Pic Mobert First Nation was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC), and
  • Theft under $5,000, contrary to section 334(b) of the CC.

The accused was released on an undertaking, but later the same day, at 2:25 p.m., the accused breached one of the conditions of the undertaking and as a result, the person was re-arrested and charged with:  

  • Failure to comply with undertaking, contrary to section 145(4)(a) of the CC.

The accused was released after a bail hearing and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kapuskasing on Feb. 22, 2021.
