Cyclist sustains 'life-altering injury' in early morning crash

A cyclist was injured in an early morning crash in Timmins. 

The collision involving a cyclist and passenger vehicle happened around 4:10 a.m. today (Aug. 31) at the intersection of Algonquin Boulevard and Mountjoy Street. 

The man on the bicycle was brought to the hospital and sustained "life-altering injury", said Timmins Police in a news release.

Algonquin is currently closed to traffic between Theriault Boulevard and Mountjoy for Connecting Link construction work.

While traffic was congested in the area for the investigation, the scene has been released and traffic is back to normal. 

The investigation is ongoing. Police say all the relevant physical evidence was collected at the scene. They are still looking for witnesses to help with the investigation. Anyone who saw the crash should call 705-264-1201.

The City of Timmins has recently installed bicycle lanes, however, they are on Jubilee Avenue and Theriault Boulevard.
