Crash near Gillies Lake leads to impaired charge for Kapuskasing man

The Timmins Police Service has charged a Kapuskasing resident with impaired driving related offences stemming from a single vehicle collision which occurred during the evening hours of Wednesday, Dec. 11.

The collision was reported to police where a Hyundai passenger vehicle had left the roadway of Hwy 655 coming to rest in the snow bank near Gillies Lake. The driver was the lone occupant of the vehicle and was interviewed by the Timmins Police upon their arrival at the scene. The driver completed a roadside breath test which resulted in a “fail” on the approved screening device (ASD).

The driver was arrested and transported to the Timmins Police station to complete further breath testing procedures.

As a result of the incident, Sheldon Dubois, 23, of Kapuskasing, Ontario, has been charged with:

  • Operate motor vehicle while impaired contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Operate motor vehicle – blood alcohol concentration in excess of .80 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of an illegal licence contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The accused was released from police custody but must attend Provincial Court in Timmins on Jan. 7 to answer to the charges laid against him.
