Cobalt resident charged in historical sexual assault investigation

COBALT - On July 7, 2021, members of the Temiskaming and North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Temiskaming and North Bay OPP Crime Unit commenced an investigation into historical sexual assaults in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

The alleged incidents occurred between 2008 and 2009 involving a young person under the age of 16 years.

A 33-year-old resident of Cobalt has been arrested and charged with:
    •    Sexual assault, contrary to section 271 of the Criminal Code (CC)
    •    Sexual interference, contrary to section 151 of the CC

The accused was held for a Bail Hearing and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

The OPP will not be releasing the name of the accused in order to protect the identity of the victim.
