Cobalt resident charged after police seize suspected fentanyl

Police say the drugs have a street value worth over $11,000

COBALT – On Nov. 18, 2020, shortly after 2:30 p.m. members from the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police and the OPP North East Region (NER) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) observed an individual that was failing to comply with their release condition on Lang Street in the Town of Cobalt.

Further investigation yielded a substantial quantity of suspected red and blue fentanyl, a street value worth over $11,000.

Mark Beairsto, a 52-year-old resident of Cobalt was arrested and charged with:  

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA); and 
  • Fail to attend for fingerprints - as per undertaking, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code (CC).

The accused was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date, in the City of Temiskaming Shores.
