Charges laid after theft incident between acquaintances: Police

Police say the suspect fled on foot and resisted arrest

The Timmins Police Service has charged a person with theft related offences stemming from an incident that occurred on Saturday, June 26 at a Cedar Street North building in Timmins.

A Timmins Police Service officer responded to the call for service on Saturday evening regarding a theft incident between acquaintances that had occurred at the building.

Based on the investigation, the responding officers identified and confronted the male suspect, who had fled the scene on foot, a short distance from the original scene.

The suspect physically resisted the police officers in their initial attempts to arrest the man, but eventually took him into custody. The stolen property was recovered by the police.

As a result of the incident, Brandon Sutherland, 31, of Kirkland Lake, has been charged with:

  • Theft under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of property obtained by crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Resist police officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Fail to comply with release order contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

Sutherland remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at provincial court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
