Charges laid after teenagers assaulted with weapons

Police are seeking another suspect stemming from the incident

The Timmins Police Service responded to a disturbance that occurred yesterday evening (May 20) at a Mountjoy Street South address resulting in injury to a 16-year-old male person and a 19-year-old male person.

The Timmins Police Service responded to the occurrence where a verbal dispute amongst acquaintances escalated to the point where the suspects entered the residence by force and proceeded to assault the victims with weapons in their possession.

The assaultive altercation was contained to a Mountjoy Street South apartment.

The responding Timmins Police officers were able to identify, locate, and arrest one of the suspects a short distance from the scene while the other suspect fled on foot.

As a result, Daryl Rumelski, 42, of Timmins has been arrested and charged with:

  • Three counts of assault with a weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Carry a concealed weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Being unlawfully in a dwelling house contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in police custody for the purposes of a bail hearing slated for today at provincial court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.

The victims received medical attention for the injuries they sustained during the altercation.

An arrest warrant is being sought by the Timmins Police for the other suspect, a 32-year-old man from Timmins, on assault and weapons charges stemming from this incident.
