Careless driving charges laid after December's double fatal on Highway 11

A transport had collided with two passenger vehicles travelling in the opposite direction

OPP has laid charges in a horrific double-fatal collision that occurred on the evening of Dec. 8, 2021.

Police were called to the three-vehicle accident in Temagami shortly after 6:30 p.m. to find that a transport had collided with two passenger vehicles travelling in the opposite direction. Police say the transport was southbound and two passenger vehicles were northbound when the collision occurred.

The driver and passenger of the first vehicle died at the scene. They have been identified as 60-year-old David Parton of Brantford and 66-year-old Sandra Moyer of the community of Ayr, near Cambridge. The driver and passenger of the transport, along with the driver of the second vehicle, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the transport, Vikash Somra, 41, of Etobicoke is charged with two counts of "careless driving causing death."

On March 6, 2022, the Burlington OPP Detachment assisted in serving a summons to Somra

The OPP's Technical Traffic Collision Investigators and the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service assisted with the investigation. 

Somra is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on May 5 in Temiskaming Shores.
