Bodies of man, two children recovered in submerged vehicle investigation

OPP divers are helping with the submerged vehicle investigation at Little Pearl Lake in Schumacher.

Police have recovered three bodies from a Schumacher lake.

Around 2:30 p.m. Aug. 6 a vehicle drove into Little Pearl Lake north of Algonquin Boulevard in Schumacher. 

An OPP dive team was called in from Gravenhurst to help with the investigation. Today, the bodies of three people were recovered from the scene. 

The victims are a 42-year-old man, an 11-year-old boy and a seven-year-old girl. All were from Timmins, according to Timmins Police. The coroner has ordered post-mortem examinations. Next of kin notifications are being completed.

"The vehicle used in this event has been recovered and remains in the custody of the Timmins Police Service," reads the police update.

"The ensuing investigation into this matter continues at a healthy pace under the control of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Timmins Police Service."

A stretch of Algonquin Boulevard near the scene that was closed for the investigation has reopened.

In addition to the Timmins Police, the South Porcupine OPP, the OPP underwater search and rescue team, Timmins Fire Department and other support services were on scene.

Timmins Police is collecting evidence from any witnesses who may have seen the driving behaviour prior to the vehicle going into the lake.
