Attempted break-in leads to numerous charges

A physical altercation took place between the suspect and officers during his arrest, police say

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local person with break and enter related offences stemming from an incident that occurred early this morning at a Toke Street apartment in Timmins.

The Timmins Police Service responded to a call for service where a male suspect had attempted to forcibly gain entry into an apartment with the use of a crowbar.

During the attempted break-in, [it is alleged that] the suspect caused damage to the unit’s door frame and uttered a threat to the lone occupant of the apartment.

The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival.

Based on the investigation completed by responding Timmins Police officers, the suspect was identified, located and arrested at a Balsam Street address and taken into police custody.

A brief physical altercation took place between the suspect and the police during the arrest.

As a result of the incident, Jimmy Young, 34 of Timmins, has been charged with:
    •    Attempt break and enter with intent contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Mischief under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Possession of break-in instruments contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Utter threats contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Trespass by night contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    two counts of criminal harassment contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Resist peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The suspect remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against them.
