KIRKLAND LAKE - On Oct. 26, 2021, members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began an investigation into a sexual assault incident that occurred in the Town of Kirkland Lake.
As a result of the investigation, a 37-year-old person from Kirkland Lake has been arrested and charged with the following:
• sexual interference, contrary to section 151 of the Criminal Code (CC)
• invitation to sexual touching under 16 years of age, contrary to section 152 of the CC
• sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age, contrary to section 271 of the CC
• assault with a weapon, contrary to section 267(a) of the CC
• forcible confinement, contrary to section 279(2) of the CC
The OPP will not release names in order to protect the identity of the victim.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
