TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE

The Timmins Police Service has found it necessary to contain a Balsam Street North apartment building for public safety reasons.
This is a measure deemed necessary in relation to explosive devices that were coincidentally located by officers in the course of an unrelated call for service at this address earlier this afternoon.
The building has since been evacuated by the Timmins Police Service for public safety reasons.
The Timmins Police Service has enlisted the assistance of the OPP’s Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) to attend the scene to safely dispose of the devices as they see fit.
Technicians within that unit are currently en route to the scene with no determined estimated time of arrival at present.
The immediate area remains under control of the Timmins Police Service for the time being as a precautionary measure.
This matter is contained to a specific address and there is no active threat to the safety of any resident in the area.
