911 calls lead to impaired charges for two drivers

Two 911 calls, six hours apart, led the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to two arrests for impaired driving in Kapuskasing.

On Feb. 10, 2024, shortly after 11 a.m., the James Bay OPP responded to a 911 call regarding a suspected impaired driver in Kapuskasing.

A short time later, officers located the subject vehicle in a parking lot of a business on Brunelle Road South. Officers woke the driver up, who was sleeping in the driver seat of the vehicle. The driver was determined to have consumed an alcoholic beverage and was arrested and transported to the Kapuskasing detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation (a 38-year-old man from) Timmins was charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on March 4, 2024, in Kapuskasing.

On Feb. 10, 2024, shortly after 5 p.m., the James Bay OPP responded to a 911 call regarding a traffic complaint on Riverside Drive in Kapuskasing.

Police located and stopped the vehicle (pictured), and upon speaking with the driver, it was determined that they had consumed an alcoholic beverage. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kapuskasing detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation (a 29-year-old from) Kapuskasing was charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on March 18, 2024, in Kapuskasing.

Both drivers were issued a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension, and the vehicles were impounded for 7 days.
