911 call for suspected impaired driver on Highway 11 leads to charges

A driver was charged after someone called 911 about a suspected impaired driver in Moonbeam on May 18, 2024.

MOONBEAM - A concerned citizen reporting a suspected impaired driver has led to charges. 

Around 2:30 p.m. on May 18, someone called 911 to report a suspected impaired driver on Highway 11 in Moonbeam. 

A vehicle matching the description was located and pulled over on Highway 581 in the community. After speaking to the driver, police allege that the driver had been drinking. He was arrested and brought to the Kapuskasing detachment for more testing. 

"The OPP urges the public to call 911 immediately if they suspect impaired driving to help keep our roads safe for everyone," said police in a news release.

A 60-year-old man from Kapuskasing is charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available

The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in court on June 17 in Kapuskasing. Their licence is also suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
